Irene Roy Chapman was born in Ira Texas to Esther and Roy Chapman in 1934. Her daddy was hoping for a boy. This was probably the reason she was given the middle name Roy. When she was small, her Aunt Nettie Dean gave her the nickname Sisty and to this day, her sisters continue to refer to her as Sisty. In 1982, Irene legally changed her name to Katy Irene Davis.
Katy attended Ira High School where she was an active student and successful athlete, participating in basketball, softball and volleyball. She was also a majorette and cheerleader and earned various titles such as Best Allaround Girl and Class Favorite to name a few. She subsequently attended Draughons Business College in Abilene. She married Charles Cotton Davis in Odessa, and they were happily married for over 52 years. For 35 years, Katy was SecretaryTreasurer and office manager for Cottons Inspection Service, the company she and Cotton started in 1973. She and Cotton retired from the business in 2008.
Katy was a member of Crossroads Fellowship Church for over 48 years where she served in many capacities over the years. She was a devout Christian, and God was always at the center of her life whether at church or at home. She was a role model for everyone whose life she touched. She loved and was loved by many dear friends at the church. Many of the Crossroads Fellowship family will feel the loss of Katy as a sister in Christ.
Everyone who was close to Katy, knew she was a very caring and loving person. She was always concerned about others and never wanted to impose, no matter how bad she might have felt. She was also a very wise woman who listened to others before sharing her opinion and always had something positive to add. Katy was also very witty as anyone who played Wahoo, bunko or Farkel or many games can attest. She loved her family more than anything. She loved preparing holiday feasts and sharing those special times with a full house of her children, grandchildren, and anyone else who might need a place at the table. Katy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be missed beyond description by all who loved her and shared in her life.
Katy is preceded in death by her parents Roy and Esther Chapman, and her sisters Frances Isabell and Mildred Chapman.
Katy is survived by her husband of over 52 years, Cotton Davis her children, Dwain Davis and his wife Liliana, Scott Davis and his wife Linda, Steve Davis, Blakke Davis and his wife Connie and Philip Davis her grandchildren, Nekisia Davis, Dustin Davis, Mateo and Abbie Davis, Zachary, Brooks and Jordan Davis, Brittany Bethel, Brance and Blakke Seree Davis, Cooper and Morgan Davis and her sisters, Faye Stewart, Donna Gray and husband C.D., Louise Bryant and husband Jimmy along with their kids and grandkids.
