Kay Lowell Nelson, age 88, of Odessa, passed away on June 24, 2014 at Odessa Regional Hospital with his son and close friends by his side.
Visitation will be on Thursday, June 26, 2014 from 68 PM at Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be on Friday, June 27, 2014 at 10 AM at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jimmy Braswell officiating.
Kay was born in Pueblo, Colorado on July 28, 1925 to Wray and Erlyce Nelson. Kay spent his childhood in Kansas where his family worked in the wheat fields and later moved to several different states as his father became an Underwood Typewriter salesman. On November 20, 1943 he joined the Air Force and completed flight training in a Sterman Aircraft. Kay told so many stories of his love for planes and life long memories of his time in training. He would entertain many with his wonderful stories of his days in the service. After his time in the Air Force he returned back home to attend Sul Ross University where he met and married the love of his life, Mary Lu Nearburg. They were happily married for 57 years.
Kay joined his father in business, along with his brother Noris, where together they owned Nelson Office Supply for 60 years. Kay was a proud member of CAF and Masonic Lodge. He loved to travel fish and most of all enjoy times with his dear friends and family. He was a great craftsman and could make anything out of wood. Kay left a positive impression with everyone he ever met and was loved by all.
Kay is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Mary Lu, son Mike and brother Noris.
Kay is survived by his son Larry, several nieces and nephews and many close friends.
