Larry Dee Gorrell was born January 27, 1946 in Lubbock, TX to J.D. Gorrell and Mildred Frentress Gorrell. He passed away at home in Odessa on October 19, 2015 at the age of 69.
Larry lived most of his life in Odessa attending Travis Elementary, Crockett Junior High and Odessa High School where he played baseball.
On August 12, 1966 he married his high school sweetheart, Jean and God blessed them with 3 children, Stacy, Summer and Benjamin.
After being drafted, he spent two years (1967-1969) in the US Army serving our country at Fort Bliss, Fort Polk, in Vietnam and his remaining time in Fort Meade Maryland. While there, he was sent to Fort Knox, Kentucky to an armored tank school. Upon leaving the Army, Larry and Jean moved to Lubbock, TX so Jean could finish her degree and it was back to Odessa for a long, productive happy life.
Larry began his work life at Meither Machine on West County Rd. and after working for several machine shops he started OFM Pumps, Inc. in 1985 and it has grown into the largest independent pump manufacturing company in the USA.
During his life, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, team roping, owning race horses, Clay bird shooting, cousin's reunions, reunions with his high school buddies and gatherings with his children and grandchildren and his dog Sadie.
Larry was a boss, husband, father, paw-paw, family man, loyal friend, and all time quick-witted funny man with a persevering spirit. He was baptized in and a member of Greenfield Acres Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, his father J.D. Gorrell, his father in law, Ward G. Soules, several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Glynda Jean Soules Gorrell. His daughter, Stacy Johnson and her husband Richard and sons, Blake and Kyle, daughter, Summer Clements and her husband Jerrod and daughter, Rylie and his son, Ben and wife Kyleigh. He is also survived by his mother Mildred Frentress Gorrell Henderson and husband Don Henderson, sister, Cindy Kelley, Aunt Joyce Tyson of Oklahoma City, OK, Aunt and Uncle, Betty and Glen Warren of Trulock, CA, Aunt Katherine Frentress of Midland, TX, mother in law Bobbie Soules of Goldthwaite, TX, brother in law, Sam Soules and wife Brenda of Longview, TX and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to say a special thanks to Dr. Larry P. Oliver, Dr. Neerukonda, Dr. James R. Ingram, Dr. Zeeck, Desert Milagro Dialysis Center - especially Janet, Quinton & Haydel, all the MCH Radiology Department - especially Dr. Townsend, Gilbert, Josh, Albino, Russell and Shana, the many wonderful staff at MCH 4th floor west, rehab and wound care and The Odessa Fire Department and Paramedics for making Larry's journey better! Special thanks to Lisa, Mike and Collin who keep OFM Pump running day in and day out.

Funeral Services will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Don Norris with First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
