Lenard Lee Hinson, at the age of 88 was welcomed into the loving arms of our Lord on March 5, 2017, where he is safe in his arms, now and forever. He passed away peacefully at Hendrick Hospice Care in Abilene, Texas after a short illness. He was born October 31, 1928 in Red Top, Young County, Texas to Sam Millard Hinson and Ida Mae Hinson.
Enlisting at a young age, Lenard served two (2) years in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Lenard worked in the oil fields throughout the United States for Tom Brown Oil until his retirement. After retirement, he and his wife Gloria owned and operated the Double H Mobile Home Park in Gardendale, Texas.
Some of his life pleasures were hunting, fishing, gardening, watching birds, telling his many life stories to all that would listen, and attending the Hinson Family Reunions. He loved the mountains of Ruidoso, New Mexico and would spend hours looking at the Sierra Blanca Mountain from the big picture window of their log home. He was a true & loyal fan of "his" Permian Mojo Football team and devotedly attended each Friday night game and when he could not attend, he would listen to the game on his radio.
Lenard is preceded in death by his parents Ida Mae (Ratliff) and Sam Millard Hinson, his wife Gloria Maria Hinson, his son David Hinson, and his brothers & sisters; Mildred Viola Hinson Gilmore, Dora Adell Hinson Jackson, Ollie Mae Hinson, Mary Pauline Hinson Gilmore, Maudie Lometa Hinson King, Sam Millard Hinson, Jr., Ona Faye Hinson Goree, Ralph Dale Hinson, and Frank Edward Hinson.
He is a member of Life Change Baptist Church in Odessa, Texas. He is survived by his daughters, Lora Leah Hinson of Abilene, Texas, Elaine August of Dover, Delaware, Connie Eicher of Gardendale, Texas, Nancy Matthews of Odessa, Texas, Cheryl Hinson of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, Connie Boehm of Ruidoso, New Mexico, one son, Michael Hinson of Springtown, Texas and a sister, Bessie Lorene Hinson Ainsworth of Bryson, Texas; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great, great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's.
A Memorial Service will be at 1:00 pm, Monday, March 13, 2017 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Courtney of Life Change Baptist Church officiating.
