Leon Elms was born December 5, 1926 to Virgil Luther and Christine Elizabeth Elms Knight in Warren, Oklahoma. He passed away unexpectedly and, for those who knew him, much too soon on March 22, 2010 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.
Leon joined the Navy during WWII and served as a radio man, translating Morse Code transmissions. After leaving this branch of service, he served in the Reserves during the Korean War. Leon met his future wife, Lois Bean, while they were in school. They married on February 8, 1947.
He and Lois worked for ten years as farmers until they moved to Odessa and opened the Frost Top DriveIn. Then Leon and Lois became regular fixtures in the lives of several generations of Ector High School Kids.
Leon was the rock upon whom many of his family leaned. He was always willing to help and was versed in topics ranging from computers to politics. He was a Ham Radio operator and loved playing Rook and dominoes with his friends. Leon loved his family, which included his pets.
He is survived by wife Lois of Odessa, daughter, Denise Elms and son, Steven Elms, grandson, Nash Elms, and granddaughter, Darcie Smith, all of Odessa, along with several nieces, nephews and his beloved pet, Little Dog.
Family visitation will be 5:007:00 PM Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, March 25, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Vaughny Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
