Leonard Steve Burnett, of Odessa, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 7, 2009, at Seabury Nursing Home. Mr. Burnett had recently celebrated his 98th birthday.
Mr. Burnett was born in Arkansas on August 11, 1911 to Jeff and Daisy Burnett. He was their last surviving child.
Mr. Burnett worked for over fifty years for Cactus Drilling and Loffland Bro. Drilling. He was a hard worker and was very skillful at many different trades. He alone built two of his Odessa family homes.
He lived a very long and interesting life and could recall every little detail like it was yesterday, and he had some of the most interesting stories to tell about his lifes journey.
He is gone, but he will never be forgotten. Precious memories last forever.
Mr. Burnett married Mary Beaver who preceded him in death in 1988.
Also preceding him are his daughters, Wanda Burnett Coppedge in 1983 and Ethleen Swann; also his son, Roland Burnett and his sons-in-law, Dick Swann and Loyd Morrison; his brothers, Archie, Milo, Felix, and Clope Burnett; his sisters, Beaulah Lewis, Yula Beaver, Louella Moore and Julia Donaldson.
He is survived by his daughter, Pauline Morrison, of Odessa; son, Burt Burnett of Arkansas; twelve grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and fifteen great great grandchildren.
Visitation with the family will be Thursday, September 10, 2009 from 6-7 PM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Friday, September 11, 2009 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Don Bugg officiating.
Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
