Lillie Pitts

Lillie Anita Owens Pitts passed from this earth on July 30, 2009. She was born on April 24, 1920 in Brownwood, Texas and raised in Sonora, Texas the youngest child of Albert Jackson Lee and Alta Purcell Owens.

She was preceded in death by her parents and all but one of her 14 siblings. In 1940 she married the love of her life, Otho C. Mangold, who preceded her in death in 1958.

Lillie is survived by her only daughter, Gayle and husband Reed Berlin of Odessa, two grandchildren, Linda and husband Doyle Lawson of Odessa and James D. and wife Peti Thompson of League City, Texas, two step grandchildren, Angela Berlin of Knoxville, TN and Bob Berlin of Corpus Christi, Texas. She is also survived by seven beautiful great granddaughters: Nikki White, Brooke Bevel, Cali Turner, Savannah Hooper, Jordan Turner, Destiny Hooper and Rylea Kidd. Three great, great granddaughters: Raina White, Kali Gordy and Jaidyn Gordy, one sister, Violet Needham of San Angelo, Texas as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was a gifted artist, leaving her family with wonderful painting as well as an inherited artistic talent. She patiently shared her talent with her family, teaching them to draw and nurturing their talent. After the death of her husband, Otho, she went to nursing school and for several years was a caring professional nurse. She was a member of Sherwood Church of Christ.

Lillie was a delight to her family. She loved and cared for them with all her heart and was very proud of them. She will be missed by them all.

Services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 5, 2009, at New Life Church, 7184 Club Drive the old Odessa Country Club with Tim Halstead officiating. Burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home. Pall bearers will be her great granddaughters.

Visitation will be 5-7 PM Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
