Linda Sue Chapman

Linda Kyzer Chapman, 77, of Hobbs, NM passed peacefully at Medical Center Hospital on November 16, 2024. Linda was born on September 17, 1947, to Earl and TyJuana Kyzer in Odessa, where she grew up and graduated from Permian High School in 1966. 

She moved to Hobbs, NM in 1974 and lived in Hobbs for the remainder of her life. She worked for the College of the Southwest for many years as Executive Assistant to the President, then was promoted to Coordinator of the I CAN Scholarship for Grades Program. She was then promoted to Director for the Center of Business Leadership. She was Campus Coordinator, Graduate Records Coordinator, Assistant to the Registrar, then from 2006 to her retirement she was Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Academic Services. She also served on several committees during her employment, including the Annual Community Thanksgiving Prayer Breakfast.

Linda received a Bachelor of Arts and Science Degree from the College of the Southwest in 1998. She went on to receive her master’s degree in education in 2002. She won the President’s Award 1997- 1998 and was in Who’s Who Amount Students in American Universities and Colleges 1995-1996.

Linda was very creative and an exceptionally funny, witty person. She always had something clever to say. She was truly beautiful inside and out. 

She is preceded in death by her mother and father, TyJuana and Earl Kyzer.

She is survived by her brother, Eddy Kyzer and wife Sharon; her sister, Debbie Peden and husband, Tim; one nephew, Kevin Kyzer; and one niece, Jennifer Morrell and husband, Wes. She is also survived by her good friend, Yoni McGuire, who was like a daughter to Linda.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
