Linda Farrar

November 28, 1947 — April 14, 2019

Linda Farrar, age 71, of Odessa, TX, passed away on April 14, 2019 in Odessa.

Linda was born November 28, 1947 to Daniel Stewart Farrar and Ruth Lenora (Kirk) Farrar. She attended Casper schools including Jefferson Elementary and Natrona County High School; both had been attended by her father years earlier. She attended Casper College, receiving dual degrees; one in geology and one in business. She then graduated with a BS in geology from the University of Wyoming.

Linda worked as a uranium exploration geologist for AMAX (American Metal Climax) in Riverton, Wyoming and in Greeley, Colorado. Linda was then hired by Mobil Oil and moved to Denver, Colorado, transferring later to Corpus Christi, Texas, still working in uranium exploration. Her next transfer was to Houston, Texas where she began work in oil and gas exploration. In 1985 she was transferred to Midland, Texas as a supervisor with an oil and gas exploration group for Mobil Oil.

Linda left Mobil in 1988 opening her own business; Women at Large- a health and fitness salon geared toward larger women. Following the closing of Women at Large, she worked as a financial planner with New York Life.

Linda was very active in her community-on the Board of Directors of Campfire (1989-1992) and with BPW (Business and Professional Women). She held many offices with BPW. She was Woman of the Year in 1993; Linda was the creator and director of "Networking in the 90's", a day-long seminar for women which raised funds for MD Anderson, and scholarships for women to attend college. In 1995 Linda took runner-up in a statewide speech competition and BPW's Individual Development Group.

During a down turn in the oil industry, Linda retrained via Region 18 as a secondary level science teacher. She taught physics, chemistry and biology at Bonham Jr. High (9th grade) for 17 years.

Linda was fortunate to retire in 2013 and began enjoying playing contract bridge and taking her very best buddy, Rafiki (a certified therapy dog) to visit nursing homes with Home Hospice. She was also an avid gardener.

Linda is preceded in death by her parents, Ruth Lenora and Daniel Stewart Farrar.

She is survived by five first cousins, Mickey Farrar, Ray Farrar, Cyndi (Farrar) Latka, Mark Farrar and Clark Farrar.

A memorial service will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Donnie Rollie officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Casper, Wyoming with her parents.
