Lorraine Powell Johnson, 92, died Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at Parks Assisted Living in Odessa.
Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday, April 16, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Stockton, Texas with Dr. Jim Miles officiating. Arrangements are under direction of Sunset Funeral Home in Odessa. Private graveside services will be held in Panhandle, Texas at a later date.
Lorraine was born in Gray County, Texas on June 24, 1918 to Herman and Lillian Williams Powell. She grew up in Panhandle, Texas as the older sister of three sisters and one brother. She married Wade Johnson in Panhandle on June 1, 1935. During the years of the Depression and World War II, three children were born to this marriage. She was a devoted mother and wife as well as a professional, working at the Borger News Herald as head of the accounting department for 35 years retiring on May 31, 1985. After the death of her husband in 1992, Lorraine moved to Fort Stockton, Texas. She became a member of the Pecos County Hospital Auxiliary serving two terms as President.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Wade, and her son Dale Johnson.
Survivors are her son and daughterin law Kenneth and Faye Johnson of Fort Stockton and daughter and soninlaw Dorothy Jean and Walyn Gibson of Odessa. Survivors also include 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 5 greatgreat grandchildren.
