Lovie Frances Griggs, 93 ½ years old, of Odessa, received her heavenly reward on Monday, February 5, 2018. Frances was born in Lindsey, Oklahoma on June 4, 1924 to George and Gertrude Bunch. She married Nealy Bryan Griggs on October 22, 1939. While having 8 children, they traveled Texas and New Mexico before making a home in Odessa.
Since she never learned to drive, she became grandma to multiple children by providing childcare in her home. Throughout her years, she never met a baby or child she didn't fall in love with. She was affectionately known as Grandma to many, young and old.
Besides spending time with her family, her two favorite hobbies were working wordsearch puzzles and reading anything she could get her hands on. Her favorite author was Danielle Steele, and she had just about every book she ever wrote.
Even though she lived her life as a wise and Godly woman, Frances was proud to reaffirm her faith in baptism at the age of 92. She was a founding member of New Dawn Fellowship and attended services regularly. She had many friends in her church community.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved baby sister, Faye Cargill, 2 older brothers, Thomas Bunch and Weldon Henry (Red) Bunch. Also preceding her in death are her infant son, William Carr Griggs, Jeremiah Griggs, Sr., Tommie Griggs, 3 son-in-laws, as well as a few very special babies that we know she is now holding and spoiling.
Frances' legacy will continue through her children, Marcus Griggs and wife Joyce of Katy, Texas, Marilyn Christa and husband Wayne of Menard, Texas, Rhoda Broome of Rockport, Texas, Brenda Sartain and husband Joe of El Dorado, Arkansas, George Griggs and wife Jackie of Pearland, Texas, Starla Andreas and husband Richard of Windom, Kansas and daughter in law Patty Griggs of Slidell, Louisiana. Her legacy will also continue through her 24 grandchildren and somewhere around 125 (and counting) great and great-great grandchildren. Finally it would be impossible to leave out her 2 fur babies, Sheba and Tinkerbell.
Family and Friends visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 pm, Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. We will celebrate Frances' life at the future home of New Dawn Fellowship. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, February 9, 2018 at 10:00 am at Odessa Bible Church, 2110 E. 10th in Odessa. Graveside services will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Rev. Wally Schiwart officiating. Pall bearers will be her grandsons.
Arrangements are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home. To send family condolences please sign her guestbook at www.sunsetodessa.com.
