Loy Walters

February 8, 1953 — February 5, 2018

Market Street Pharmacy lost a loyal customer on Monday, February 5, 2018. Loy "Sonny" Walters Jr., 64, of Odessa, Texas, passed away after a short illness. Sonny loved watching the Dallas Cowboys or Texas Longhorns play football, playing poker any chance he could, listening to Led Zeppelin, grilling and cooking for family, making comments of how much food his family could eat of his freshly prepared food, baking his mother's German Chocolate cake, his wife, his children, and his collection of beloved dogs. It is unclear of which he loved more, most likely depended on his mood. Not a day went by that somebody wasn't harassed for fun, so apologies are given to the pharmacy techs at Market Street and telemarketers that he never knew. Sonny loved telling stories and jokes, he enjoyed nothing better than a shared laugh, especially at your expense. We all know, he was not a man to beat around the bush, he told it as he saw it. So those that knew him best knew better than to ask him about reality shows, turn on the Rolling Stones or Country Music, unless you wanted his honest opinion.

Sonny was the third child born to Loy and Mary Walters in El Paso, Texas, on February 8, 1953. The family moved to Odessa in his youth and he attended Odessa High School, where he made many lifelong friends and met his first wife of 15 years, Fayrene. They had two children, Travis and Traci. Sonny's children spent many long hours watching Sonny play softball, poker, and bowl. Sonny has spent the last 29 years married to Loretta. Loretta and Sonny had a daughter, Natalie (Little-O). No doubt, Sonny surely had to enjoy the many years he spent being the only male in the house with Loretta, his two step daughters: Jackie and Julie (Shorty) and Natalie.

Few people were as dedicated and hard working as Sonny. Interstate Treating Inc. has been Sonny's employer for the last 30 years. In all of Sonny's stories about work there was never a complaint about people, hours, workload, but appreciation and love of his coworkers. He truly thought of everyone he worked with as family.

Sonny is survived by his wife, Loretta, of Odessa. His children Travis Walters, of Odessa; Traci Walters, of Austin; Natalie Weimer and husband Chris, of Kyle; Jacqueline Goodaker-Craig, of Austin; and Julianna Jones and husband Keenan LeVick, of Kyle; his Granddaughter Violet Burroughs, of Austin; his sisters Myrtle Erwin, of Midland and Patricia Kirk, of Heath; and brother Martin Walters, of Odessa.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Loy and Mary Walters, of Odessa; and his brother, Jerry Walters, of Austin. May his reunion with his family be beautiful; it would be a poker match to be seen!
