Margaret Loraine Womble, 85, passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2017 in Odessa, Texas. Her loving daughter and husband were with her as she took her final breaths and went peacefully in her sleep.
She was born in Drumright, Oklahoma to Martin Hoyte and Lucille Roubison on October 21, 1932. She was the last of six siblings and as the baby of the family, was always known as "Babe." Babe was married to Everett Gayle Ernst (Bub) in December of 1949 and raised two children with him, Judy Ann Brewer and Christopher Gayle Ernst. After the death of her first husband, Babe attended Odessa College to study bookkeeping and accounting to ready her career in the oil field at Atco Services as the office manager. She learned ballroom dancing and took flying lessons to earn her pilot's license and eventually owned her own plane. She met James Elbert Womble and married him February 14, 1986 and they remained married until the day she passed. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene of Odessa.
Babe loved to crochet, cook for her loved ones, and pass the afternoon sitting in the swing on her patio with her family and friends. She never took no for an answer when asked if you were hungry, and you better believe you weren't getting out of there without having a plate full of food and a glass of her sweet iced tea. To her children Babe was a woman who loved to be in the middle of things and was always in charge. To her son-in-law she was the best fried "burritas and tacas" maker he'd ever met and knew once her piercing eyes were on you, you were about to get told something you'd better listen to. To her grandchildren she was "Granny," the woman who cherished them and showed them her love through many plates of spaghetti, as many waffles as they could eat, and her fresh apricot fried pies. She was the woman who danced in the middle of Manuel's Restaurant with her husband and whose dimples you could see for days. She was the beautiful woman who loved playing cards and Spinner's and told her granddaughters every time she saw them how pretty they were. She was the woman who loved fiercely, protectively, and completely.
Babe is survived by her husband, children, and many loving grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who will miss her smile, her heart, and of course, her food.
