Marion Bryant of Odessa, Texas was granted her angel wings on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 in Odessa, Texas.
Marion Janetta Samuels was born February 13, 1944 in Clarksville, Texas to Frank Johnson and Janelle Samuels. She moved to Gainesville, Texas at an early age but returned to Clarksville every summer to spend time with her grandmother, aunts and uncles who considered her to be a little sister. She attended Booker T. Washington in Gainesville. She married Woodrow Ray Bryant on July 28, 1962. To this union five children were born. As her husband, Woodrow, worked for Shell Oil, Oxy and Henry Resources, their family moved often throughout Texas - Midland, Wichita Falls, Odessa and Denver City - before they settled in Odessa. Marion worked for many years as a school cafeteria cook. She retired early and devoted her life to caring for her family full time. She loved the Lord and served him faithfully. She was a member of Parks Memorial Church of God in Christ in Odessa, Texas.
Marion is survived by husband, Woodrow Bryant; son, Stephen Bryant and wife, Tessie of Houston, Texas; daughter, Patrea Bryant of Odessa, Texas; daughter, Lydia Bryant Williams of Carlsbad, New Mexico; and son, Woody Bryant and wife, Bresha of Austin, Texas; sister, Harriet Jane Russell and husband, Charles of Collinsville, Oklahoma; sister, Judy Daniels and husband, Curtis of Cedar Hill, Texas; brother, Tim Pogue of Fort Worth, Texas; and sister, Ada Nicholson of Grand Prairie, Texas; father, Frank Johnson, of Clarksville, Texas; grandchildren, Johnny Taylor, Jr., Cameron Bryant, Woody Bryant II, Milann Bryant, McKenna Bryant and Bryce Bryant; two great - grandchildren, four aunts, three uncles, three sister in laws, lifelong friend, Willie Ola Gaines and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Marion devoted her entire life to her family. She did whatever she could to help those that she loved, which was her passion in life. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her children and most of all spoiling her grandchildren. She had a true "what happens at Granny's house, stays at Granny's house" spirit. She enjoyed calling her relatives on the phone and making sure that all was well with them. Marion was like a second mother to her siblings, she took her job as the oldest child seriously. She was a self-taught "culinary chef". She loved to garden, read and travel. She enjoyed watching westerns and Family Feud. She loved to laugh, her laughter boomed out loud for all to hear. She had a big heart and always reached out to help those in need with a quiet, selfless and generous manner. Marion's strong, unwavering and devoted presence will be truly missed.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jacquelyn Bryant, her mother, Janelle Pogue, her stepfather, Willie Pogue and her grandmother, Ada Young.
