Marlene Janie Colee Turner peacefully passed away, at 90 years old, on February 28, 2023, at her home in Odessa, Texas.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM, Monday, March 6, 2023 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Kevin Bushart, Senior Pastor of Means Methodist Church of Andrews, Texas officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Marlene was born in Shelbyville, Indiana to John and Justina Colee on December 23, 1932. She went to school in St. Paul, Indiana, and graduated from Waldron, Indiana. She married Richard Turner on September 2, 1951, in St. Paul, Indiana, at the Methodist Pastor’s house. She attended Odessa College in Odessa, Texas. She worked for several years at Montgomery Wards as a Personnel Manager, and then at Ector County Independent School District as a bookkeeper in the payroll department for 16 years, then retired in 1998. She was very proud to be a volunteer at Medical Center hospital for many years, after her retirement. Marlene had great faith in and love of God, and was a founding member of her church, St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, and stayed a very active member, serving in different aspects through the years. She was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi. Her family was very important to her, and she attended any performance sporting event or service she was invited to – cheering on her loved ones and encouraging them to be their best. She loved the outdoors, quite often found working in the yard or gardening, always moving, cleaning, helping. She enjoyed playing games, quite often cards and dominoes, with family and friends.

Marlene is preceded in death by both her parents, John and Justina Colee, her sister Mable Bonenberger, of Indiana, and her sister Maude Wagner, also of Indiana.

Marlene is survived by her husband of 71 and ½ years, Richard Turner, daughter Karen Hopkins and her husband Steve of Midland, Texas, son Richard Turner and his wife Jana of Brownwood, Texas, son Michael Turner and his wife Sharon of Odessa, Texas, sister Mary Ann Sebastian of Shelbyville, Indiana, brother George Colee of Odessa, Texas, and John Colee and wife Sue of Greensburg, Indiana, 7 grandchildren: Michael Hopkins, David Hopkins, Bryan Turner, Brittni Porter, Brandon Turner, Brennan Turner, and Brogan Henderson, 16 great grandchildren: Megan, Nathan, Nolan, Stephen, Trevor, Kacie Jo, Payton, Riley, Embree, Hadley, Joshua, Ezra, Jalyn, Breck, Briggs, and soon to be born Jasper, and 2 great-great grandchildren: Hadlee and soon to be born baby Jenson.

Pallbearers will be Bryan Turner, Brandon Turner, Brennan Turner, and Andrew Porter.

The family would like to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Carl Brown, Dr. Sam Kim, Dr. Scotty Ortega, Interim Health and Hospice, and visiting angels.
