Marshall Simmons, born April 12,1928 in Lockhart, TX to Mr. Samuel Malisa Simmons, went to be home with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, January 29, 2013, from Dallas, TX. Marshall accepted Christ at an early age and loved Gospel music. He was a member of The Prayer Wheel Gospel Singers from 1949 to 1960.
Marshall moved to Odessa in February of 1949 from Lockhart, TX and served in the U. S. Army from 1951 to 1953. He united with Joetta Dolphus in 1952 and two children were born to that union, Lee Ester Askew and Marshall Hosea Simmons. Marshall had one other son, Marshall Bernard Collins of Odessa, TX.
Marshall retired after many years as a dedicated employee from The Odessa American newspaper.
He was a faithful member of Greater St. John Baptist Church until he relocated to Dallas to live with his daughter in 2008.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Samuel and Malisa Simmons, five sisters: Bertha Burditt, Lillie Robinson, Willie Mae Woods, Marie Jones, and Irene Simmons, and two brothers: Harold Simmons, W. C. Simmons.
He leaves to cherish his memories three children: Lee Ester Askew Damon of Dallas, TX, Marshall Hosea Simmons of Orange, TX and Marshall Bernard Collins of Odessa, TX, two grandchildren: Katrina Askew of Rowlett,TX and Kendrick Askew of Dallas, TX and 7 great grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Greater St. John Baptist Church, 212 S. Muskingum with Senior Pastor Rev. E. J. Miller, officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
