Mary Boring

Mary F. Angel Boring, 93, of Odessa, TX died peacefully in her home on Sunday, May 27th, 2012.

Memorial services will be at 11:00am, Thursday, May 31, 2012 at St. Johns Episcopal Church with Father Les Jackson presiding. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be George Harrell, Bo Bassett, Blake Bassett, Court Urban, J.R. Turnbull, Frank Deaderick, and Kirk Edwards.

Angel was born in Ora Grande, New Mexico, on October 12th, 1918. She was raised in Westbrook and attended North Dallas High School. A graduate of Texas Tech University 38, she married Mac Otts Boring, Jr., on March 23rd, 1940, in Odessa, TX.

Angel loved Odessa and worked tirelessly throughout her life here to better her city. She was instrumental in bringing the symphony, Broadway Theater and the Globe Theater to Odessa. She was a founding member of the Crystal Ball Foundation benefitting the Permian Basin Rehabilitation Center and was on the UTPB Development Board. She and her husband have long been supportive of their church, St. Johns Episcopal Church and Medical Center Hospital. In 1992 she was honored by the Heritage Society for Philanthropy and named First Lady of Odessa in 2003.

Angel is preceded in death by her father, Paul Marion Van Horn her mother, Mellie Mabel Van Horn her husband, Mac Otts Boring Jr. her sister Pauline OKeefe and her nephew Van OKeefe.

She is survived by her daughters, Dixie Boring Bassett and Julie Boring Harrell and her husband George Harrell grandchildren, Bo Bassett and wife Keri, Blake Bassett and wife Meg, Blaire Bassett Turnbull and her husband, J.R. Turnbull, and Brooke Harrell Urban and her husband, Court and 7 much loved greatgrandchildren.

The family expresses their deepest gratitude for the love and care provided over many years by Luis and Cira Paz, Lillian Short, Frances Navarette, Noema Padilla, Olga Fernandez, Lupe Martinez and Angel.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to St. Johns Episcopal Church or a charity of your choice.
