Mary Collerd

Mary S. Collerd, 85, of Odessa, passed away Monday, January 14, 2013 in Odessa, Texas.

Mary was born August 8, 1927 in Newburyport, Massachusetts to Joseph and Anastasia Kulik. She attended Newburyport High School.

Following high school, Mary worked in an electric fuse factory until 1949, at which time she enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served until 1952. There she met the love of her life, Herb Collerd, and they married in Jacksonville, Florida on May 8, 1950, and together they raised five children.

Mary enjoyed reading, traveling she lived in numerous military base cities throughout the U.S. and Italy, camping, and raising her family. She was a member of Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary, charter member of the Lutheran Church of the Risen Lord, and volunteered for Meals on Wheels.

Mary is survived by her husband of 63 years, Herbert J. Collerd son, James H. Collerd and his wife Jan of Midland daughters, Joannie and her husband Tim Morby of Houston Judy and her husband Gerald Ervin Janie and her husband Blaine Corbin and June Collerd, all of Odessa grandchildren, Jennifer Snow, Jill Shedd, Tyler Collerd, Hilary Cook, Kelsi Gray, Grant Morby, Cody Corbin, Kaleb Saldana and Aviyah Saldana great grandchildren, Hannah Shedd, Gracie Snow, Corbin Gray and Jayci Gray.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home from 6:00 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Lutheran Church of the Risen Lord with Jimmy Braswell officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Tyler Collerd, Gerald Ervin, Blaine Corbin, Tim Morby, Grant Morby and Tom Polston. Honorary pallbears will be Cody Corbin, Kaleb Saldana, Greg Snow, Jade Gray and Jeffery Cook.

Our sincere thanks to Dr. J.B. Naidu, and many thanks to Irene Tinney, NP, Candy Foster, Christina Dorsett, and Dr. Robert Meeks, DDS, and special thanks to Hospice House.

Memorials can be made to the Odessa Humane Society, Hospice House, and Lutheran Church of the Risen Lord.
