Mary Louise Davis passed away on March 8, 2009, in Richardson, Texas.
Born April 27, 1922, to Lee and Gertrude Good Crosby, she grew up on the Good Ranch at Kenna, New Mexico, raised by her maternal grandparents, Frank and Katie Good. She graduated from Elida New Mexico High School in 1939 and entered Hardin-Simmons University that fall. In December, 1943, she rode the train to San Rafael, California, and married her sweetheart, Loyd Clifton Davis. The couple and their infant daughter, Teresa, moved to Biloxi, Mississippi, where Loyd was stationed in the Army Air Corp. In 1945, they returned to New Mexico and lived for a time on the Pat Boone ranch. As their family started to grow, Loyd and Mary Louise moved to town Elida, New Mexico, where Loyd started his hardware career and Mary Louise taught at the Elida school. They moved to Amarillo in 1950, then to Odessa in 1956, where Loyd worked for Amarillo Hardware, and Mary Louise made their house a home. She was a highly sought after substitute teacher for many years in ECISD , active in the Crescent Park Baptist Church, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was an accomplished seamstress, sewing clothing and life lessons for her four daughters. Mary Louise was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents, her brother, James, her husband, Loyd, two daughters, Janet Marie and Sharon Davis, and great granddaughter, Addison Grace Nelson. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Kenneth Keele of Stamford, Peggy and Bob Urban of Murphy, Karen and Jim Nelson of San Diego, California, and Linda and Steve Gordon of Tahoka. She is also lovingly remembered as Granny by twelve grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and numerous beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Mary Louises seven grandsons: Jay Porter Chancey, Jr., James Loyd Chancey, James Kyle Nelson, Jeffrey Alan Nelson, Joshua Aaron Gordon, Donald Clifton Nelson and Patrick Wayne Urban.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, at Sunset Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, visitation prior from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 10.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the National Parkinsons Foundation, the American Heart Association, Cook Childrens Hospital, Fort Worth, or a charity of your choice.
