Mary Wright

Mary Jo Green Wright, age 80, of Odessa, passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Parks Methodist Retirement Village.

Mary was born on August 20, 1930 in Ackerly, Texas to Forrest Fay Green and Lillie Irene Westerman Green. Mary moved from Ackerly to Eden when she was nine years old and graduated as valedictorian from Eden High School in 1947. She earned a bachelors degree in education from Abilene Christian University in 1951 and received a masters degree from Sul Ross State University in 1978. She married Bill Wright on August 16, 1953 in Eden, and five years later they had their only child Lyn in Abilene, Texas.

Mary retired in 1990 after 35 years of teaching. She taught in Eden, Wichita Falls, Abilene and Ector County ISD including Milam, Fannin and Cameron Elementaries.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Bill Wright on April 14, 2006 and her brother Raymond Green in January of 1993.

She is survived by her daughter Lyn Roberts and husband Doug of Odessa her granddaughter Jennifer Ross and husband Jonathan of Spring, Texas her granddaughter Laura Velten and husband Justin of Montgomery, Alabama her greatgrandchildren, Jed Ross and Jocelyn Ross her sisterinlaw, Jane Green Robertson and husband Sam of Wimberly, Texas sisterinlaw, Bobbie Jo Peterson and husband Don of Loving, Texas nieces Donnett Peterson Wiley and husband Jimmy of Loving, Texas and Tiffany Peterson Hutchison and husband Kevin of Wichita Falls, Texas nephews, Joe Green and wife Leslie of Chicago, Illinois and Ray Green of Atlanta, Georgia.

Memorial services are scheduled for 4:00 PM Monday, March 7, 2011 at 6th and Jackson Church of Christ with Shawn Miller and Joe Green officiating.

Much appreciation and many thanks to the staff at Parks Methodist for the care Mary received the last three years and to Home Hospice for their support during the last two months. Marys sense of humor and love for her family will be remembered and missed.
