Mavis L. Howell, age 92, of Odessa, TX, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 6, 2017 in Odessa.
Mavis was born October 19, 1924 in Pine Prairie, Louisiana to Hattie and Author McDaniel. She married Dewey N. Howell on September 16, 1939 in Pine Prairie, Louisiana and raised six children together. She remained married to him for 53 years until he passed away on December 15, 1992. They lived in Louisiana, Houston and eventually moved to Odessa, Texas and called it home.
Mavis is preceded in death by her mother and father, Hattie and Author McDaniel, her husband, Dewey Howell and her two sons, Doyle Howell and Donald Howell.
She is survived by her four children, 3 sons and one daughter, Billy R. Howell, Sr. and wife Phyllis, of Odessa, TX, Jerry A. Howell of Langtry, TX, Dewey N. Howell, Jr. and wife, Nazreen, of Wimberley, TX, Hattie Taliaferro and her husband, Mark, of Brownwood, TX; 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
She was a devoted Baptist and member of Grace Baptist Church for over 35 years. She was a faithful believer and loved Jesus. While she was still capable of living at home, she found great happiness in watching and listening to her Christian television stations. She especially enjoyed watching the Wheel of Fortune. She also loved her Dallas Cowboys and Tiger Woods. She loved being at home and now she is at her eternal home with Jesus.
Pallbearers are: Dustin Brookshire, Jerry Dugan, Jr., Marquis Taliaferro III, Michael Taliaferro, Kenny Taliaferro and Jarrett Welborn.
Funeral Services will be at 4:00 pm, Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Josh Green officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to thank Dr. J. B. Naidu and Staff, ORMC Hospital and Staff and Madison Medical Resort for the special care given to our Mother and Memaw. We would like to also thank Sara LeBlanc, her caregiver, for providing care and comfort while she was living at home.
