Odessa

Max Dwaine Sharp, 93, of Odessa Texas, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, in Odessa, Texas.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, January 23rd, 2025, from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday January 24th, 2025, at Sunset Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.

Max was born in Wilson, Oklahoma to Vaughan Pierce and Opal Jones on October 19, 1931. He attended Kermit High School until he decided to quit and volunteer to join the Army. After basic training at Ft. Ord, California Max went overseas to Japan. When the Korean War began Max was a member of the 31st Regimental Combat Team, 31st Tank Company, he was later deployed to Korea. As a Sergeant, Max commanded a M4A3 Sherman tank. He sustained multiple wounds including shrapnel and severe frost bite in combat operations in Korea at the Chosen Reservoir. Returning stateside he was assigned to Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. His decorations, awards and military documents were destroyed by fire in July 1973 at the National Records Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

He married his one and only love Ethel Eloise Sharp on December 1, 1952 in Jeffersonville, Kentucky. They met and fell in love at the Kentucky State Fair while he was stationed at Ft. Campbell. Max worked as an oilfield fabricator as well in construction. He was a millwright by trade and also built race car engines.

Max is preceded in death by his father Vaughan Pierce, Stepfather Ernest Sharp, Mother Opal Sharp, and loving wife Eloise Sharp. 

Max is survived by his daughter, Debbie Locklar and husband Burleigh; his son, Max Sharp Jr; grandchildren, Greg Tindol and wife Kelly, Laura Steptoe and husband Marcus, Cody Sharp, and Casey Sharp; great grandchildren, Heather Allbright and husband Collin, Patrick Tindol and wife Aurora, Zachery Harris, Cameron Reeves; great-great grandchildren, Zoie, Mya, Brooklynn, Dallas, Jaylen, Ivy, and Aaliyah; as well as numerous friends. 

Pallbearers will be Larry Jacobs, Ben Valdez, Collin Allbright, Casey Sharp, Patrick Tindol, Zachery Harris, Marcus Steptoe and Cameron Reeves. Honorary Pallbearers will be Greg Tindol and Erin Boyd.

The family of Max Sharp wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the VA Clinic in Odessa, TX as well as Meals on Wheels of Odessa, TX and a special thanks to Sandy Marvin.
