Menzie Wilks Bourke, 93 years, passed away Sunday February 26, 2012 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, Texas. Menzie was born December 14, 1918 to Ida Mae and Emery Irl Bourke in Dennison, Texas.
He served in the United States Army in 1943. He married Betty Jean Craig January 1, 1944. He then began his fire fighter career with the Midland Air Terminal Fire Department. He proudly served as a fire fighter with the Odessa Fire Department beginning in 1954 and retired as Captain of Station 4 in 1985. Dad was very proud to be a member of the brotherhood of fire fighters.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Betty Bourke of Odessa, sons Wayne Bourke of Edmond Oklahoma, Rodney Bourke of Odessa, Texas and wife Mary. He is also survived by grandchildren Lisa Coscia and husband Matt of Lewisville, Texas, Bradley Bourke and wife Gina of Oxnard, California, and Trisha Dempsey and husband Connor of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He is also survived by greatgranddaughters Berkley Coscia, Emory Coscia and Ella Dempsey.
He was preceded in death by little great granddaughter Kennedy Bourke.
There will be a graveside service held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa, Texas with Jeff Cleere officiating.
