Mildred A. Hext, age 88, was born June 6, 1920 to Bill and Myrtle McPherson in Leonard, Oklahoma and went home to be with the Lord on December 13, 2008. She spent her childhood years in Pampa, Texas where she married John Cecil Hext on July 16, 1938. She and Cecil moved to Odessa, Texas in 1950 and after retirement, resided in Okmulgee, Oklahoma for 13 years before returning to Odessa.
She experienced life as an energetic wife and mother. Her desire to learn new things was contagious and she beautifully expressed her passions for cooking, crafting, painting, decorating and antique glassware. She loved church activities and after retirement, added bird watching to her list of many hobbies. Throughout her life, she enjoyed various jobs outside the home. Of her many talents and pursuits, her love and devotion to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ was first and foremost. Her church home was Eisenhower Church of Christ.
She is preceded in death by her son, Billy R. Hext, son-in-law, Joe Williams, grandson, Joe Williams, Jr., one sister, Ruby Cox and brothers, Murray and J.M. McPherson.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Cecil Hext, daughters Edna Williams of Kansas City, Missouri and Kay Murry and husband Bob of Ranger, Texas, daughter-in-law, Jane Hext of Odessa, grandchildren Melinda Spencer and Susan Palmer of Midland, Texas, Benjamin Williams of Kansas City, Missouri, Terry Dodd of Hereford, Texas, Garry Murry of Lipan, Texas, fifteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 AM Tuesday, December 16, 2008 in Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Clark Racca officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Parks Methodist Retirement Village, 111 Parks Village Drive, Odessa, Texas 79765 or to a charity of your choice.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation and thanks to the staff at Parks Methodist Retirement Village where Mildred and Cecil have resided since 1996 and to Home Hospice for the loving care she was given.
