Obituary for Monty Douglas Collins
It is with a full heart that we announce the passing of Monty Douglas Collins, age 70, on March 22, 2025 in Odessa, Texas.
A Service to Commemorate his Life will be held at 4:00 PM, Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home in Odessa.
Monty was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Monty Rue and Irma Jean Collins on April 17, 1954. He spent his formative years in Houston, Texas. He obtained a degree in medicinal chemistry, and a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (Cum Laude) in 1989 from the University of Houston. He married Mary Collins in 1980. They welcomed their daughter Morgan Elizabeth into their home on May 8, 1991. The family lived in San Antonio.
He served as a pharmacist for 35 years, eventually moving to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa for the past 20 years. In 2010 he found love and married Wendy Wood. He was welcomed into her large, active family.
Monty had the most genuine and robust laugh that was evidence of the lightness and grace that humor could bring. This was his gift to us all. Synonymous with love, his laughter had the ability to cover a multitude of iniquity (1 Peter 4:8). Other gifts he brought to us were his fantastical vocabulary, his lavish affirmations and encouragements, and his generous interest in healing via pharmaceutical treatment. Monty went to the gym everyday where he was always perfecting his boxing skill.
He is proceeded in death by his mother, Erma Jean Collins; brother, Mark Collins; father, Monty R. Collins; and dear friend, Randy Bartand.
He will be evocatively missed by recent spouse and best friend, Wendy Wood-Collins; daughter, Morgan Collins; stepchildren, Dustin Wood, Damen Wood, Danika Young, Derek Wood and David Wood; and dear friend, Ronny Cooke; 5 grandchildren, Grady, Keegan, Samuel, Dylan, Dove. He had many cherished friends and colleagues at Medical Center Hospital.
We wish to express sincere thanks to the healthcare professionals at Medical Center Hospital for their compassion and care during his last days on earth.
In lieu of flowers, a generous donation to Springboard Center would be deeply appreciated. Monty would strongly support helping others to overcome the painful grasp of addiction. https://springboardcenter.org/donate/.
