Nancy Chase

April 24, 1919 — May 7, 2008

Nancy Caroline Strang Chase, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died at home, in her own bed, with her husband of 67 years at her side, on May 7, 2008. Her family can hardly imagine the earth without her.

She is survived by her husband, Jonathan Balloch Jack Chase; her brother, John E. Strang and his wife Mickey; her son, Jonathan Balloch Jon Chase, and his wife, Mary Ann; her daughter June Strang Chase Hankins and her husband, Lamar; her daughter Dahrl Hill Chase McCain and her husband, Ralph; her grandchildren Caroline Cansler Chase, Jonathan Balloch Jack Chase, Allen Strang Chase, Dahrl Chase Hankins Bartlett, Keiva Hill McCain, and James Chase McCain; and five great grandchildren.

Nancy was born in Whittier, California, on April 24, 1919. She spent happy girlhood years in Casper, Wyoming; lived one year with her family in Peru; graduated from Polytechnic High in Long Beach, California; and attended Kilgore Junior College before falling in love with and marrying Jack in 1941. Reminiscing about their courtship, she often said, Our halos clicked. She and Jack brought up their children in Midland, Texas, and later retired to Brady, where they lived on the lake for almost twenty years. Since 1999, they have lived at Parks Methodist Retirement Village in Odessa.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Clara Cecelia Elder Hill Strang; her father, William Horace Strang; and her brothers Benjamin C. Strang and William H. Strang.

Nancy Chase had a way of making others feel loved and cared for; she listened with great interest to her friends and loved ones, and consequently everyone loved talking with her. She loved children, wildlife, keeping in touch with friends and family, and meeting people from different backgrounds, cultures, and points of view. She enjoyed opera, crossword puzzles, old movies, and funny stories. She had great style, which came out in her flair for writing childrens stories, cartooning, arranging her home, and dressing. She was beautiful, in every way.
