Copeland, Nancy Lee Smith
Beloved mother, grandmother and sister, was taken into the arms of Jesus on May 28, 2009.
Nancy was born in Truscott, Texas on February 16, 1933 to Wilburn and Faye Spivey Smith. The Smith family moved to Odessa in 1941 where Nancy graduated from Odessa High School in 195l. In June of 1954 she married John Miller Copeland. Nancy received her B.S. in Home Economics degree from the University of Texas in 1956 and later her Elementary Education degree from Sul Ross State in 1967.
Nancy was employed with the ECISD for 24 years, teaching second and third grade at Pease Elementary in Odessa. She was a gifted teacher and impacted the lives of hundreds of students through her enthusiasm for educating children. Nancy moved to Coppell, Texas in 1999 to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She loved traveling with her family especially to Ruidoso, New Mexico, Carmel, Monterey and San Francisco, California.
Nancy most cherished the time spent with family, especially her five grandchildren and great-grandson. Nancy will always be remembered as touching her friends and familys lives in a special way, with selflessness, kindness and gentleness of spirit. Nancy is preceded in death by her brother Floyd and her parents. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Jo Ann and Naylan Vencil of Odessa, sister-in-law Barbara Smith Gilbert of Odessa, aunt Sybil Spivey Simmons of Wichita Falls and by her children, son Curt Copeland and wife Barbara of Tyler, daughter Jill Womack and husband Joe of Coppell and daughter Allison Copeland of Irving. She is also survived by grandchildren Laura Copeland Crawley and husband Jeremie and great grandson Hunter of Friendswood, Megan and Jenna Copeland of Tyler and Faye and Warren Womack of Coppell. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Judes Childrens Research hospital at www.stjude.org. Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 30 from 5:00-7:00 pm. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home and graveside services will be Sunday, May 31 at 2:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa, officiated by the Reverend Jimmie Braswell. Services entrusted to Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home of Lewisville and Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home in Odessa.
