Neal Marshall
Odessa. Robert Neal Marshall, 78, was born on September 3, 1938 and, after a valiant fight against cancer, went to join his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, May 30, 2017.
Neal was born in Terrell, Texas, to Dr. Robert and Kathleen Marshall. His formative years were spent in Tyler, Texas, where he attended public schools and was graduated from Tyler High School in 1956. Neal entered Lamar Tech in Beaumont, Texas, and was graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering.
Neal met the love of his life, Amy Jo Fox, in Tyler and they were married in January, 1960. They celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary 5 months ago. Together, they embarked on an illustrious, 30 year career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. His career included stints in the Texas cities of Houston, Victoria, San Antonio and Uvalde. In 1972, they moved to Odessa where Neal served as District Manager until his retirement in 1991. Following his retirement, he served as Interim Executive Director of the Odessa Chamber of Commerce for a short period of time.
Neal was a family man and he and Amy Jo were parents of two daughters and five grandchildren whom they loved dearly. Neal was involved in community life as a member/officer of several organizations which included The First Baptist Church of Odessa, Odessa Rotary Club, Meals on Wheels and the Odessa Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of several Bible Study groups, Community Discussion groups, and Bridge/Domino groups. Neal was an avid golfer, spending much time with many golfing friends. His other hobbies also included traveling, camping, hunting and wood working.
Neal is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Amy Jo, daughters, Amy Marshall Hardin and Cathy Marshall Mason and husband, Rick, and five grandchildren: Wright Hawthorne, Marshall Hawthorne, Haley Fox Trenschel and husband, Matthew, Grant Mason and Blake Mason. Other survivors include a sister, Mary Alice Bethancourt, a brother, Bill Marshall, brother-in-law Jim Keffer, sister-in-law Mary Ann Keffer and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will include a Memorial Service at 11:00 am, Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Reverend Don Norris and Randy Beard will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts to First Baptist Church of Odessa, M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston or a charity of your choice.
