Nelda Nelson

Nelda "Meme" Dometria Nelson, age 77, of Odessa, passed away on October 31, 2015.

She was born July 25, 1938, to Robert and Dometria Willett in May, Texas and lived in Odessa for over the past 59 years. She married Jack "Greasy" Nelson, on December 6, 1959 in May, Texas and enjoyed 54 years of marriage before Jack passed away in 2013. Jack and Nelda operated D&J Automotive for over 40 years before they retired in 2007.

Nelda was the sweetest person you have ever had the fortune to know. She was never without a smile on her face and as long as she was with her family, most importantly her grandkids, she was at her happiest. She enjoyed family time more than any hobby or trip. But she wasn't above going fishing or cruising around the Caribbean or heading to lake before her illnesses began to limit her energy.

Nelda is preceded in death by her husband Jack, her parents, 6 brothers, and 4 sisters.

She is survived by her son, Brian Nelson and partner Lance McNiel; daughters, Melissa and husband Trent Yates, Lisa and husband Kirk Strahan; her four precious grandkids, Barrett Yates, Paige Strahan, Branson Yates, and Austin Strahan. She is also survived by her sister Wanda Toler, sister-in-laws, Gwen Edwards, Grace and husband David Gober, Brother and Sister-in-law Sonny and Marlene Nelson, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 7-8pm at Sunset funeral home on Monday November 2, 2015.

Funeral Services to celebrate the life of our mom will be held Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at 4:00 pm, at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Robert Bratcher officiating.

Our family would like to thank her caregivers, Mary Collins and Margaret. Our Hospice of Midland family, Cindy, Ana, Tammy, and Mattie. As well as the many special people at The Courtyards, especially Martha, Cristina, Lorna, Donna, Jasmine, Billie, Himelda, Amanda, Nora, Sasha and all that took care of her over the past year. We are truly blessed to have had you taking care of our mom.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of Midland (hospicemidland.org) or your favorite charity.
