Nell Haynes

Nell Roy Haynes, age 71, of Odessa, TX passed from this life Thursday, May 3, 2012. She was born in Rayville, LA., June 11, 1940 to Atley and Norma Crawford. Nell grew up in Snyder, TX and resided in Odessa, TX the remainder of her life. Nell married Kenneth Haynes in Odessa, Texas June 9, 1978.
Nell graduated 1975 from UTPB in with a teaching degree. Nell taught third grade in Odessa for 25 years. Nells love of teaching led her to specialize in reading remediation, helping underprivileged children struggling to read. Her extended family included the many children she taught. Each of them loved her gentle approach and her kind words.
Nell loved watching sports especially high school and college football. Some of her students went on to be college and professional athletes. She was so proud and scheduled time to watch them play. Nell also loved music, travel, antiquing, and collecting.
Nell was a caring, kind and loving teacher, wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. She never met a stranger and was the best friend you could ever have. Her smile lit up a room and her laugh was infectious. Nell had the ability to make the most routine tasks fun. These traits made her special to all that knew her.
Nana was blessed with many grandchildren who cherished the time she spent with them. Sharing without limitation, her love, kindness, and words of wisdom.
Those left to cherish her love and memory are her husband: Kenneth Haynes of Odessa daughter Xandra Turner husband Russell of Sugar Land, TX daughter Sherri Rowe husband Scott of Odessa stepson Eric Haynes wife Amy of Allen, TX sister Faye Jean Shelton husband J.K. of Monahans, TX Sister inlaw Tracy Haynes life partner Jerry Hudson of Albuquerque, NM seven grandsons and one granddaughter, Taylor Morgan Turner, Justin, Kody Jake Rowe, and Mitchell, Colby Jordan Haynes niece Janna Burnett, husband David son Shelton of Monahans, TX nephew Craig Shelton, wife Sue, and daughters Sheridan Shelby of Midland, TX.
Memorial services to celebrate her life will be held Monday May 7, 2012 at 4:00 pm at the Sunset Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Odessa, TX. Internment at Sunset Memorial Gardens will follow.
Memorials may be given to Compass Hospice of Odessa, TX, Terrace West of Midland, TX, or the Alzheimers Association.
Her daughters would like to thank her loving husband of 34 years, Kenneth Pepaw for loving and taking special care of her.
