Neola Miles

March 4, 1922 — February 19, 2017

James 3:17 describes a life lived with heavenly wisdom: a Life of Purity, Peacefulness, Gentleness, Submission, Mercy, Impartial and Sincere. These are just a few words that described Neola Miles.

She was born into a Christian family on March 4, 1922 to James Martin Stroope and Annie Moore, the ninth of eleven children in a small community near Hot Springs, Arkansas. She was greeted in Heaven on February 19, 2017 while being tenderly cared for at Brookdale Sherwood.

She married Ray Woodruff Miles in 1939 and soon they were blessed with a baby boy. Ray served in WW II and when the war was over, they came to West Texas to work in the oil fields where Ray was tragically killed in 1959. As a young widow, she began keeping children in her home and later she was a seamstress for Medical Center Hospital for 20 years.

She was a member of Second Baptist Church for 58 years where she taught the Beginners Sunday School. Church attendance was always a high priority where she sang in the Adult Choir, the Glory Choir, and we believe she was singing as she entered the pearly gates!

We are so grateful for her influence on our lives. She is survived by her son Roger Olen Miles and wife Kathy; their daughter Kelly Miles; their son Matt Miles and wife Dina and their daughter, her only great-granddaughter, Reese- all of Lubbock. Her daughter Rhonda Gray and husband Sam of Odessa; their daughters Kristen Gray of Catania, Sicily; Rebecca Rodriguez and husband Samuel of Leander; and Rachael Smith and husband Collin of Dallas. She is survived by her little sister, Fern Walton, and is preceded in death by her 4 sisters and 5 brothers.

A celebration of her life will be held at Second Baptist Church on February 24, 2017 at 11:00 am. The family deeply appreciates all the words of love and expressions of kindness as we hope to never forget the life of our mother, our Grandmommie, our Aunt Neola.

Arrangements are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home. To send family condolences please sign her guestbook at www.sunsetodessa.com.
