On December 3, 2012 Norma Fay Smotherman the Love of my Life, my baby, took her last breath on Earth and her first breath in Eternity. Norma came to Odessa in 1956 however, my amazing life with Norma began on September 16, 1994. Norma was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. Her faith and light shine through every aspect of her life. Normas talents were as diverse as they were outstanding. Norma and I spent a great deal of our married life together working hand and hand on The Lazy L Ranch in Pleasant Farms. Norma was a good a Rancher as anyone could expect. Her talents were certainly not limited to Ranch work. She was a gifted and blessed painter. Her paintings were displayed in several area businesses, including Texas Commerce Bank, Permian Basin Mission, and Birth Rite of Odessa. Normas many grandchildren would search in anticipation for the Red Cardinal she placed in every painting. Norma used her paintings to witness to others. She never took credit for her talent but gave all the Glory to her Lord and Savior, My hands, Gods talent, were proudly displayed on a name tag on the back of every painting. Normas greatest gift to others was encouragement. She would sit and write endless cards to family members, friends, church members, and strangers whom she thought needed a word of love and faith added to their life. Norma was an inspiration to her grandchildren. She would share her faith and knowledge of the Lord through a special GrandmotherGranddaughter Bible Study she would hold at her house. Her gift of encouragement was not limited to her words she was an advocate for Casa of Odessa, active on the book committee for Christian Womens Club, and a Candy Striper for Medical Center Hospital.
Norma loved and was loved by all her children and grandchildren. They will hold forever her sweet smile and infectious laugh in their heart. They will cling to her words of wisdom and hold her close.
Normas passion was her love for the Lord. Her favorite Book in the Bible was Romans and her favorite verse was Isaiah 40:31 But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not be faint. Norma was a proud member of Crossroads Fellowship in Odessa. She enjoyed the Retro Sunday School Class, and her Small group which met at our home each week. Norma believed in the power of prayer and the faith the word of God brought to our lives.
Norma my love your journey here on Earth is over, but our love for you will never still. Until we meet again in Glory spend your days soaring with eagles, walking with incredible strength and never again will you become weary or faint.
