Ofelia Martinez

Ofelia Silvas Martinez, age 86, of Odessa, Texas, passed away on March 7, 2016 in Odessa.

Our beloved mother was born August 12, 1929 in Alpine, Texas. From a very early age she worked hard to earn money for her shoes and clothes and also to help her house hold. The depression was going on at that time. Some of her brothers were in the Military service and would often help by sending money. Mom was such a free spirit. She met our Dad, Elias Martinez, around 1945. They got married in Alpine. Around 1951 they moved to Odessa. We soon became members of that beautiful little Mission Church on Prairie Street. Dad was a Deacon there for many years and mom sang beautifully at church. The Lord Jesus Christ has been a great part of our lives. We thank God for that. We rejoice that Mom is with Dad and Jesus!

She is survived by daughter Viola and husband Pete McGarity of Odessa, son Robert and wife Sandra Martinez of Lubbock, daughter Mary and husband Lanny Urias of Marble Falls, daughter Diana Enriquez of McKinney, TX, daughter Esther and husband Pete Alonzo of Carrollton, TX, daughter JoAnn and husband Julian Mancha of Odessa, son Eli Jr. and wife Linda Martinez of Lubbock, brothers David Silvas of San Angelo, Eleno Cano of Monahans, sisters Elidia Oyerbides of Monahans, Mary Cano of Temple, TX, 15 grandkids and 13 great grandkids.

Special thanks to Su Casa home health nurse, Virginia Villanueva and Dr. Anne Acreman. Also, thank you to the ORMC nurses.

Visitation will be held Thursday March 10, 2016 from 6-8pm at Sunset Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be Friday March 11, 2016 at 4pm at Sunset Funeral Home.
