Oliver Roosevelt Batchelor, 76, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2009 in Odessa.
He was born March 9, 1933 in Goldthwaite, Texas to Ollie Batchelor and Clara Lewis Batchelor. He was raised in Kermit, Texas, and was a graduate of UTEP in 1956 and received his engineering degree in 1976 from UTPB. He worked 45 years at the RexeneHuntsman plant in Odessa, and served in the U. S. Army Reserves from 1958-1976. Mr. Batchelor married Norma Fields on August 14, 1952. He was a West Texas football official in the 70s and 80s, was a member of the Odessa Judo Club for over 40 years, achieving a 6th degree black belt, and he was active in Meals on Wheels.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Norma Batchelor; his children, Judy and Bill Drury of Odessa, Connie and Barron Moore of Odessa, Danny and Lorinda Batchelor of Katy, Tx; grandchildren, Christopher Bailey, Lisa and Chris Alvarado, Amber and Chris Sumaya, Corey and Kara Ford, Shane Elliott, Jamie and Scott Hubbard, Alison and Caleb Garison, and Brett Batchelor; great grandchildren, Rayna Ford, Alex and Judah Alvarado, Jayce and Sarah Hubbard, and Jalynn Ford; brothers, David Batchelor of Arkansas, Ken Batchelor of San Antonio, Terry Batchelor of Austin, Mike Batchelor of Kerrville, and sister, Dorothy Pederson of Austin.
Memorial services are scheduled for 1:00 PM Friday, April 24, 2009 in Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Jimmy Braswell officiating. There will be a Come and Go visitation at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home on Thursday afternoon, April 23, 2009 and Friday morning April 25, 2009.
The family requests memorials be directed to Meals on Wheels, Home Hospice or any Charity of choice.
