Ollie Wayne Carnes, loving husband and daddy, age 86 of Odessa, went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 1, 2013 in Odessa.
He was born December 17, 1926 in Haskell, Texas to Weaver James Carnes and Anna Louise Schriver Carnes. He joined the Navy at age 17 and when he got out met the love of his life, Nellie Joyce Black Carnes and had one daughter, Janice. He worked in the oil field and in 1952 he made a career change to law enforcement. He worked for the Police Department as a scooter cop in Odessa and was promoted to Detective over the identification department, where he was a fingerprint expert. In 1963, he went to work for the Ector County Sherriffs Department in the Identification Department. He served under four sheriffs and while there he was the helicopter pilot. When he retired he was captain over the jail. He was a Master Mason, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, a Shriner, past commander of the VFW, and was president of the Cootie Organization. He loved the Lord and was a member of Northside Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his mom, dad and wife Nellie.
Survivors include his daughter, Janice and her husband Kelly Franklin two grandchildren, Kellie Reddin and her husband J.W. and Kevin Barnett, all of Odessa four great grandchildren, Justin Reddin, Alysa Reddin, of Odessa, Amanda Barnett of Levelland, and Amber Barnett of McCamey and one great great granddaughter, Khloe of Levelland.
Visitation with the family will be 68 PM Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, October 4, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Clydel Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
