Visitation will be Tuesday, June 7, 2022, from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at 2:00 PM, at Northside Baptist Church in Odessa, TX, with Clydel Chapman, Tracy Watson, and Luke Watson officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
Orba was born at the dawn of the day on May 3, 1936, in Belton, Texas, to Orban and Daisy Turner. She spent most of her school years in a two-room schoolhouse in London, Texas, where her parents taught school and she played volleyball and tennis.
Orba married Howard Hight on June 27, 1955, at London Baptist Church. She loved being a wife and going on mountain adventures together with Howard, her loving and faithful husband. She graduated from beauty school and was a hairdresser during their early marriage but soon had four daughters and was a homemaker for most of their married life. Her family was the joy of her life, and she and her home remained the center of family events throughout her lifetime.
Orba played the piano at Northside Baptist Church for 50 years and taught Sunday School. She spent many hours delivering flowers and writing cards of encouragement to sick and home-bound people. For many years, she walked at the mall, where she shared her faith with friends she made along the way. She was an excellent cook and a talented seamstress and loved sewing dresses for her four girls. She also used her hairdressing skills to be a blessing to others throughout the years.
Orba is preceded in death by her father and mother, Orban Lewis and Daisy Cook Turner; her beloved husband, Leslie Howard Hight; her brother-in-law and sister, Billy, and Norma Carpenter; and her sister, Bobbie Nelle Carpenter.
Orba is survived by one brother-in-law, Jimmy Carpenter; her daughters and sons-in-law, Alan and Teressa Senn, Tracy and Tina Watson, Kelwin and Melissa Harris, and Sid and Krista Braddock; 13 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Memorials may be given to the Northside Baptist Church Missions Fund. Orba’s family wishes to extend a special thanks to Kindred Hospice Care, Linda Hanks, Jerry Gentry, and Dr. Chris Tschauner.
