Other Yocham

Other Mackie Mack Yocham was born October 17, 1919 in Eden, Texas Concho County to Johnnie Mack and Rotha Jane Hughes Yocham. Mack, age 91, passed away Tuesday, February 22, 2011 in Odessa, Texas.

He married Ruby Frances Roberts May 31, 1945 in Gatesville, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and two brothers Pleasant Harmon and Cecil Acie.

Mack enlisted in the Army in 1941 at Hamilton, Texas he served with the 36th Division 141st Infantry Regiment Service Company. He received a commendation for Exceptional Meritorious conduct from the 8th to the 30th of March 1944 in Italy. Although completely unfamiliar with the area, he delivered the supplies speedily and efficiently. Mack and his truck the Cannon Ball drove to the front lines to evacuate a group of paratroopers from positions rendered untenable by the heavy artillery and mortar shelling. During this period he made four round trips to the beachhead, always performing his duties with exemplary calmness and dispatch.

He moved with his wife to Odessa in 1945 and began his work with Phillips Petroleum Company. He retired from Phillips after 40 years of service. After his retirement he spent his time working in his alfalfa field and his wood working shop where he built rocking horses and childrens furniture.

Mack is survived by daughters, Jane and husband Steve Pickens of Odessa, Texas Deborah and husband Jeff Willis of Cashion, Oklahoma and son Dewain Yocham of Cashion, Oklahoma six grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.

Graveside services are scheduled for 3:00 PM Friday February 25, 2011 at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Marcos Zuniga officiating.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Midland for their compassion and the dignity given to Mack.
