Pablo Acosta

Pablo Paul C. Acosta, age 64, of Odessa, passed away peacefully and with dignity on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 in Odessa, Texas. His life was full of love of family and friends.

Paul was born August 25, 1946 in Fort Stockton, Texas to Julio S. Acosta and Maria Lila Costelo Acosta. He served in the U.S. Marines from 19661970. Paul served two tours to Vietnam and earned many decorations during his short time in the service. He married Emma Castro August 28, 1971 in Fort Stockton. Paul worked 39 years in the petrochemical industry. He started with El Paso Products as a plant operator and stayed with the plant through its many changes until he retired in January 2011 as an environmental specialist for Flint Hills.

Paul loved woodworking and searching for new ideas at craft festivals all across the country. Many family and friends have his creations in their homes, from birdhouses to necklaces. He also enjoyed restoring hot rods, quail and dove hunting with Mike Johnson, and fishing with compadre, Abel Franco. He and Emma enjoyed traveling all over the country and meeting new people. They collected new friends across the country on their many travels. Paul was a strong supporter of Odessa High School attending baseball and football games regularly. He and Emma would even travel to outoftown games to watch the team play, long after his son had graduated. He traveled to Omaha each summer to watch the College World Series and played softball on the El Paso Products team.

He was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, where he served as a RCIA instructor and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Paul was preceded in death by his father, Julio Acosta and his brother, Roy Costelo.

Survivors include his wife Emma Acosta of Odessa his son and his wife Paul and Valerie Acosta of Odessa his mother, Maria Lila Acosta of Fort Stockton his brothers, Adan Leija and his wife Amelia of Lytle, Pete Acosta and his wife Helen of Abilene his sister, Eva Acosta of Fort Stockton and sisterinlaw, Alicia Costelo of El Paso.

Visitation with the family will be from 67 PM Friday, April 1, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home. Rosary will follow at 7:00 PM Friday. Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10:00 AM Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Father Arturo Pestin officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
