Paul Mirts, 83 passed away Saturday August 28, 2010 in Odessa, TX from a long battle with cancer. He was born October 13, 1926 on a rural farm to John David Mirts and Bernice Gathwright Mirts in Fulton, MO.
At the age of 18 he entered the Army and served two years in World War II. Upon return he attended college for two years. Then he went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. He married his wife in March 1949. In October of 1951 he moved his family to Odessa, TX working still for Southwestern Bell. Paul also owned and operated ABC Sound and Alarm Company for over twenty five years. In 1988 he retired from Southwestern Bell.
Paul was an avid antique telephone collector for many years. He loved traveling and taking cruises. Paul was a devoted family man.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Bernice Mirts and sons Glenn Edward and Dennis Lee Mirts.
He is survived by his wife of sixty one years, Barbara Mirts two sons, Jeff Mirts of Kerrville and David Mirts of Farmington , NM, a brother Gary Mirts of Shreveport LA and a sister Wilda Bryan of Jeff City, MO, six grandchildren Ryan, Rhiannon, Haley, Summer, Cassie and
Samantha and three greatgrandchildren.
In his memory, in lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
Visitation will be at 57 PM, Monday, August 30, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be at 3:00 PM Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with David Miller officiating.
