If theres a piano in heaven, Jo is playing all those good ole gospel songs that she loved so much. Josephine Baird Hoggard, 89, succumbed to a brief illness on Sunday, July 13, 2008 at Hospice House with family by her side. Those she left behind will miss her immensely, but those who were waiting for her to come home are rejoicing at the gates of heaven

Family visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at Sunset Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.

Services will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens Funeral Home with the Reverend Kevin Bushart of St. Lukes United Methodist church officiating. Interment at Sunset will be immediately following the service.

Jo Hoggard was born June 23, 1919 in Ozark, Missouri, to Myrtle Lee and John Quincy Baird. Her love of music, and the piano in particular, took her to many churches and revival meetings, where she met her husband, Rev. Kenneth Hoggard, a Baptist minister. They were married on September 14, 1939 and moved to Odessa in 1978. He preceded her in death in 1991.

Jo was a member of the Odessa Music Teachers Association, teaching piano lessons until just a few years ago. She also served as Worthy Matron for the Floyd Easterling Chapter of Eastern Star.

Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Sue Hermens and her husband, Ted, of Elsah Hills, Illinois; son, Johnny Hoggard and his wife, Cathy, of Odessa, Texas; daughter-in-law Martha Hoggard of Odessa, Texas, grandchildren, Glenda Jo Hughes of Ellijay, Georgia, Brock Hermens of Dow, Illinois, David Hoggard of Odessa, Texas, Paul Hoggard of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Michelle Brown of Odessa, Texas. She had six great-grandchildren.

The family would like to give thanks to Crane Nursing Home and their staff and to Home Hospice for all the love, service and care given to Jo. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Hospice House, 903 N. Sam Houston, Odessa, Texas 79761.

Services are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.
