Peggy Harris Searcy passed away Friday, February 16, 2024, at home after a short illness. She was born to Ray Harris and Audrey Cummings Harris February 23, 1939, in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. Peggy and her family moved to Odessa, Texas in 1952. Herschel and Jewel Russell were the first family her parents met. They became best friends. The Russell family continues to be close. Peggy graduated from Odessa High School in 1957. She then went to work for The Travelers Insurance in Midland, Texas after high school. She met John Searcy in November 1958, and they were married in May 1959. Peggy and John were married 10 years before they had their only child, daughter Susan Searcy, in August 1968. They owned J & P Equipment for 25 years, where Peggy was the office manager and bookkeeper. Peggy started attending Bethany Christian Church March 1976 where she served as a Sunday School teacher, church secretary for 10 years, and was active in the Christian Women's Fellowship. Peggy and John loved to entertain family and friends for holidays, for fish fry's from John's many fishing trips, for birthdays, and for "just because" days. If you came to Peggy's for Halloween, your picture would have been taken, and you would have received a copy in your Christmas card. Peggy loved to send cards for all occasions and was often called the Card Lady. Peggy's home was a popular place for weddings and baby showers. She was a wonderful cook, and her amazing waffles were a favorite on Saturday mornings at the Oak Creek Lake house. John would take the kids skiing at the crack of dawn...and you know, Peggy would do waffles. She loved to garden and the love of flowers and plants showed in her beautiful yard. John used to joke that she ironed the grass. They both followed Mojo Football for years and Thanksgivings and Christmases were often scheduled around the play-off games. Peggy never had grandchildren but the love for her niece and nephew Gracie Harris and McKenzi Harris and Godchildren Clayton Forbus and Jeremy Cole Forbus was every bit as good. Peggy would have been 85 this coming Friday and everyone that knew her will feel the loss.
Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers Richard Harris and Don Harris; "second daughter", Tracy Scott Dickerson; John's aunt, Pauline "Polly" Mitchell; best friend of 57 years Martha Hoggard; dear friend, Gayle Berlin; dear friend, Rela McDaniel; "second mom", Alice Keen; and beloved grand dog, Faith.
