Penny Hite

April 28, 1942 — September 6, 2008

Penny Hite passed away on September 6, 2008 in Odessa, Texas. Penny was born April 28, 1942 in Rising Star, Texas to J.D. and Avis Ives. In 1949 her family moved to Kermit, and finally settled in Odessa in 1953. She graduated from Odessa High School. She married Wayne Hite in February, 1971.

Throughout her childhood she learned to cook and bake by helping her mother in the kitchen. Later in life she was well known for her remarkable baked pies and cakes. In the late eighties she and Wayne began to play bluegrass music for fun and loved to attend the local and area bluegrass festivals where they met a lot of new friends. They also enjoyed entertaining at some of the local coffee shops and restaurants. She also enjoyed spending time sewing, making clothes for her loved ones, and making flower arrangements with her sisters. Penny was a wonderful wife and mother, and a good friend to many. When she met Wayne she was working as a cook at the Country Caf. They soon opened and ran several businesses through the years, including a construction company, a trucking company, and a plumbing company. Later in life when she needed to slow down a little she owned and operated a daycare. Penny was a respected, and caring person, loved by many, and she left us too soon.

She is survived by her husband Wayne, her daughter Sharon, and son-in-law Jan Graham of Odessa. As well as her mother Avis Ives and sister Sandy Brumit of Odessa, sister Henry Beth Myers of Alvin, Tx, and brothers Warren and Leroy Ives of Farmington, Nm. Also her grandchildren Amanda, Chance, and Dylan, and her great-granddaughter Reagan. David Clark of Odessa, along with her stepdaughter Marcia and husband Weldon Evans of Odessa, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

Penny is preceded in death by her father J.D. Ives, brothers Kenny and Jerry Ives, sisters Panzy Clark, Peggy Lawless, and Betty Ives.

The family takes great comfort knowing she was greeted in Heaven by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. God embraced a wondrous angel when he received Penny. Those she left behind will miss her immensely, but those who were waiting for her to come home are rejoicing at the gates of heaven

The pall bearers will be Chance Graham, David Clark, John Brumit, Mel Parker, Don Slater, Gary Garner, and Dennis Gray. Honorary pall bearers will include Amanda Graham, and Beau Wilson.

Services will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the Sunset Chapel, with Chaplain Jimmy Brasswell officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

The Family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 9, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
