Perumal Balasekaran

Perumal Balasekaran passed away on March 11, 2021 in Odessa, Texas.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home with Pujari Vignesh Mahadevarahalli officiating.

He is survived by his two sons, Venkatesh and Ranga; daughters-in-law, Bhuvana and Mitun; grandchildren, Nithya, Vijay, Neil, and Vikram.

Perumal was born on September 1, 1942 in Salem, India. He studied Geology at Annamalai University.  He excelled in academics and received his master’s and then went on to become the youngest geology professor at Presidency College in Chennai, India. He emigrated to the United States with his sons in 1977 to be the unwavering support for his wife, Saroja who was doing her post-graduate medical training in Massachusetts. In the US, he took on various roles in teaching and environmental affairs, but his most import role was being father to his two children. When she went into solo practice in Dallas in 1985, he learned all the intricacies of medical billing and ran her office successfully for 13 years until they both retired in 1998.

Perumal was a devoted, kind, and loving husband, father, and grandfather.  He was the consummate caregiver. He always thought of the comfort of others before himself. He was at his happiest when his grandchildren were enjoying their favorite foods that he lovingly cooked or when he was playing their favorite games with them. He loved the company of friends and family and was endearing to everyone that entered his life.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Perumal lost his wife of 54 years just 4 months ago and we feel he never recovered from his devastating loss. Taking care of her was his sole reason for living.  May he find peace in being reunited with his soulmate.
