Petrita Gonzalez

Petrita Gonzalez, 83, of Odessa, TX passed away on April 16, 2024, at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. 

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, April 20^th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Bernard Getigan officiating. A burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. 

Petrita was born on June 29, 1940, in Doctor Gonzalez, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Anastasio Gutierrez and Isabel Martinez. She married Jose Guadalupe Gonzalez and was happily married for 58 years. She was the co-owner of family-owned Southern Maid Donuts on 8^th and Hancock Ave. in Odessa, TX since 1966 where she made and sold donuts for her community and beyond with love for decades. She attended mass weekly on Saturdays at St. Mary’s Catholic Church as long as she was physically able. 

Petrita was a loving and devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. She was also the hardest working human any of us ever knew. She worked at her shop 7 days a week and always made the time to get back home to make enough lunch for anyone that decided to stop by. There was always enough food, love and space to go around at Petrita’s house for anyone that needed it on any given day (and, at times, for months and years at a time for any family member who needed a new place to call home). The door to her home was always open, she loved and trusted all. Petrita is already and will forever be extremely missed. We will live the rest of our days in her honor. 

Petrita is preceded in death by her father, Anastasio Gutierrez, mother, Isabel Martinez, brothers, Eladio Gutierrez and Gerardo Gutierrez, brothers-in-law, Manuel Renovato and Hector Mendoza, sister, Florinda Gutierrez and sisters-in-law, Rosa Sandoval and Oralia Rodriguez. 

Petrita is survived by her husband, Jose Guadalupe Gonzalez, son, Jose Guadalupe Gonzalez, Jr., daughters, Angelica Moreno and Elisa Gonzalez, son-in-law, Pavel Campero, grandchildren, Kyree Moreno, Kyson Moreno, Karly Moreno and great grandchild Odin Hinds. 

Pallbearers will be Jose Guadalupe Gonzalez, Jr., Kyson Moreno, Pavel Campero, Hector Mendoza, Gerardo Mendoza and Paco Villanueva. 

The family of Petrita Gonzalez wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the loving and attentive staff of the ICU at MD Anderson and every family member and friend that sent their love, support and who has prayed for Petrita during this very difficult time.
