Phyllis Lee Sunny Haase King, 74 of Odessa passed away Sunday evening, February 24, 2008 at Midland Memorial Hospital. She was born November 28, 1933 in Salina, Kansas to Frank Ernest Haase and Pearl Ethel Madden Haase. She married Gerald A. King in September 1953 and moved to Southern California, Mr. King died in California in January 1972. Sunny moved to Odessa in 1980 from Southern California.
She was a long time employee of the Odessas JC Penney store where she managed the misses dress department. She was a kind and loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Sunny treated herself to the movies, popcorn, and chocolate She will be remembered for many things but her creativity to make special occasions of the simplest things will be her lasting legacy. Sunny was fun and made life fun for others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother Clyde Robey of Salina, KS.
Survivors include her daughters Gayla Copenhafer and husband Robert Cope of Colorado Springs, CO; Lisa Oz Johnson of Glendora, CA. Sisters; Dorothy Skinner and Glenda Warner of Odessa. Granddaughter Tracee K. Thompson, grandson Harold Hobbit Heller, great-grandchildren Dylan and Drake Thompson, Collin, Luke, Xander, and Demitri Heller. Her nephews and nieces Jerry and Glendon Warner, Donnie Warner, Randall Skinner, Cindy, Lacee and Chyna Skinner, Mark and Melody Skinner and his children Frank and Mandi all of Odessa.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Thursday, February 28, 2008 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Carrie Barrett and Dewey Blevins of Zion Interface Church officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
