Ralph P. Cherry, 89, of Odessa, passed away on June 5, 2023, in Odessa, Texas.
Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, June 16, 2023, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Ralph P. Cherry was born in Portersville, Mississippi to James and Ruby Cherry on August 23, 1933. He married Shelby Jean Siddens on July 17, 1957. He went to Mississippi Southern College on a football scholarship, transferred to Texas Tech and played football for them as well, but he graduated from UTPB with his BBA as the first graduating class of UTPB in 1977 on a G.I. bill. He worked for Rexall Polymers as the second person ever hired and worked his way from operator to plant manager, and he was there for 35 years. He was a veteran of the Navy. He served as Chief Petty Officer on the USS Boxer and USS Franklin Delano Roosevelt. He enjoyed golf during his retirement years.
Ralph is preceded in death by his wife Jean; and his brothers, Richard, Ellis, and Jim Cherry.
Ralph is survived by son, Greg Cherry; son, Mike Cherry and wife Wilma; brother, Edwin Cherry; sister, Catherine Darnell; and grandchildren, Kristen and Joseph Cherry.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Gary Sinise Foundation or The Wounded Warrior Project.
