Ralph David Thompson
September 11, 1933 to April 21, 2015
Ralph Thompson, age 81 of Odessa, passed away after losing his battle with Alzheimer's.
Ralph was born in Erie, North Dakota on September 11, 1933. He was raised on the family farm. He joined the United States Marine Corp during the Korean conflict. He was discharged in California on November 6, 1955. He didn't want to go to North Dakota during the winter time so he and a friend started hitchhiking all the way to Florida. Upon hitchhiking back they stopped in Odessa, got a job and ended up staying. He worked for Atmos, previously named Pioneer Natural Gas, Energas and then Atmos. He retired from Atmos after 34 years.
During his life he enjoyed archery, and shooting pool. He won many pool tournaments at the Northside Senior Center. He also loved camping, bowling and his three little dogs, Buster, Foxy and Mindy. He really enjoyed family gatherings and playing video games with his sons or reading to his granddaughters. He had a dry sense of humor which everyone enjoyed.
He was a loving husband to his wife of 49 years, Patricia (Pat). He was a Baptist.
Ralph is preceded in death by his parents, Phylis and Floyd Thompson, one brother and three sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Pat); sons, Troy Thompson and his wife Martha, Brad Thompson; three granddaughters, Katrina Thompson, Kayla Thompson, both of Odessa, Melissa Behrends of San Angelo; one sister, Grace Petersen of Cassleton, ND and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be Thursday, April 23, 2015 at 10:00 am at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating.
