Raul Lara, Sr.

Raul Natividad Lara, Sr. age 55, of Odessa, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 25, 2012 in Odessa.

Raul was born May 17, 1956 in Pecos, Texas to Lucio and Katy Lara. He honorably served in the United States Army for 6 years. He was employed by Sweatt Construction Company as a heavy equipment operator.

He had a huge passion for music, with his guitar always at hand ready to entertain his family and friends. Raul was a very loving, caring, friendly, generous person. He knew no strangers and was always ready to lend a helping hand no matter at what cost to him. He loved cooking outdoors always sharing with family and neighbors and making sure everyone ate before he would. He was a very loving son, father, brother, uncle and grandfather but most of all a true friend to everyone. The world has lost a great man and heaven has gained another angel. He will truly be missed by many.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Lara.

He is survived by his parents, Lucio and Katy Lara of Odessa his children, Melissa Lara Garcia, Cynthia Lara, Christina Lara and Raul Lara, Jr. all of Odessa. Also his sisters, Lori Varela and husband Oscar of Odessa, Carol Delgado and Belinda Lara of Odessa and Angie Pino and husband Joe of Midland brother, Louie Lara of Fort Worth, Texas 11 grandchildren and 11 nieces and nephews

Rosary will be at 7:00 PM Thursday, March 29, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home. Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Friday March 30, 2012 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Father Arturo Pestin officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Anthony Delgado, Aaron Alvarado, Jaime Varela, Joey Pino, Jose Luis Velasco, Carlos Lara, Luis Lara and Esteban Lara.

The family wishes to thank Sweatt Construction Company and all family and friends for the huge outpour of support. Also a special thanks to the Odessa American, and local news media for the privacy and respect they have given us during this very difficult time. We would also like to thank Woods Boots in Odessa and the Reeves County Sheriffs Department for providing an escort for the service.
