Raymond Chavez

Ray (Raymond) Luz Chavez, age 80, of Odessa, TX went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 13, 2015 in Midland, TX.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 pm, Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be at 1:00 pm, Thursday, December 17, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Paul Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Ray was born on July 7, 1935 to Jose and Sara Chavez in Grants, New Mexico. He married Elsie Hogue on December 18, 1958. They would have celebrated their 57th anniversary on Friday. He lived and worked in Goldsmith, TX for 38 years until he retired and moved to Odessa.

Ray is preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Sara Chavez; brothers, Steve Chavez and Cornelus Chavez; sisters, Janie Pomponi and Priscilla Baca; mother in law, Lucille Hogue.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Elsie Chavez; son, Lesle Chavez; daughter, Debra Black and her husband, Kenny; five granddaughters that he loved dearly, Kyndil and Mark Ryan, Madison Black, Julie Chavez, Alexis and Eric Bilbrey, Sara Chavez; one very precious great grandson, Kayden Bilbrey; brother, Joe and Rosie Chavez of New Mexico and his sister, Tita Deskin of Arizona.

We know you are in the arms of the Lord and he has made you feel better. You will always be in our hearts, our thoughts and our prayers. You are a loving husband, wonderful father and a great "Papa". Love you always Dad!

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Texas Oncology in Midland, TX or Allison Cancer Center in Midland, TX.

We would like to thank Dr. Kubacak and her assistant, Nancy, also the staff at Texas Oncology and Allison Cancer Center. A very special thank you to the nursing staff on the oncology floor at Midland Memorial Hospital.
