Raymond Purdy

Raymond Doyle Purdy, age 83, of Odessa, TX, passed away on January 13, 2016 in Midland, TX.

Raymond was born May 19, 1932 to Sisco Allen Purdy and Callie Alma (Calvert) Purdy in Lubbock, TX. Raymond Doyle Purdy was raised in Littlefield, Lamb County, Texas and graduated from Amherst High School in 1951. Ray served 3 1/2 years in United States Air Force during the Korean War. After basic training in Selma, Ala. he served in Goose Bay Labrador with operation Seaweed a support group for the strategic air command. He received a National Defense Service medal. After Discharge, he returned to Littlefield and worked as a machinist for several years. He later worked for Compressor Service Industry as a salesman and crew foreman. While living in Eunice, NM he served as a Boy Scout troop leader for six years. He was a private pilot and moved to Bates Air Field in Odessa TX in the early 70's. Ray loved to build and constructed 5 airplane hangars with living quarters over a period of 20 years. In January of 2000 he and Doris purchased a 4000 acre ranch in Pecos County. Ray worked the ranch, improved 5 water wells and built or repaired fences. He thoroughly enjoyed this work but they sold the ranch in 2005 and moved back to Odessa. Rather than retire, Ray bought and remodeled houses and commercial buildings for resale.

Ray was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church, The American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Ray is preceded in death by his father, Sisco Purdy, his mother, Alma Purdy, three brothers, Itasca, Allen and Dale Purdy and granddaughter, Crystal Purdy.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Purdy of Odessa; two sons, Kim Purdy of Odessa, Kenny Purdy of Carlsbad, NM; two daughters, Marla Purdy of Odessa and Tiffany VonRosenberg and husband John of Cedar Hill, TX; two brothers, Joe Purdy and wife June of Tulsa, Ok and Bob Purdy and wife Donna of Waxahachie, TX; four sisters, Pat Kesey of Tyler, TX, Shirley Nowell of Houston, TX, Betty Lou Griffin and husband Kenneth of Midland, TX., Lorraine Simpson and husband Jimmy of Grand Prairie, TX;10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and friends.

A Memorial Service will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, January 16, 2016 at St. Andrew's Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 1415 N. Grandview in Odessa, TX.
